The Traveler's Guide

Welcome to the Traveler's Guide to the Silverwater Chronicles. Below is information useful for getting to know the world in which the characters will be interacting, roughly organized according to subject or location. All questions, comments, or concerns regarding this information should be directed towards the Admin Team via the Contact Us link on the navigation bar.
 
General information about the world has been provided on this page. Please use the button links below for more specific information about a location or a subject. Keep in mind when using the buttons below that much of the world has been left uncreated so that new players can find a place for their characters to fit in.

Locations

Caldanian Empire

Caldania is the most diverse of all known continents in terms of population. From Silverwater to Castle Fox, Caldania is home to almost every type of creature found throughout the world. They are known for their acceptance of all different races from throughout the world. Silverwater Harbor is the busiest port in all of Silverwater, though there are two smaller ports; one in Thelesis and one at the mouth of the Rai River. A large portion of the population in Silverwater comes and goes via the various harbors and ships headed to the reaches of the world. 

 

Artan

Artan is a desert country who relies heavily on the incoming and outgoing of ships through their ports. Much of the exports in Artan are richly died fabrics with the most delicate embroidery in the world, and rare gems and stones found in the red Juntai Mountains. Only the very tops of the mountains ever see snow in the coldest months of the year, and not every year. Most Artan homes are made of heavy stone and have very small windows to keep the glare of the sun from baking the inside of the house. They weave the thinnest, most breathable fabric that can be found, and it is shipped throughout the world.

 

Moria

Moria is home to the magically inclined humans of the world. All of the most powerful sorcerers in the world have come from Moria, and any with magical talent are welcome in Moria for training and guidance. Nearly destroyed by a magical anomoly nearly a millenium ago, they are beginning to rebuild themselves, and rumors of a town being built along the mouth of the Lacrima river. The population is scarce, and they are wary of all outsiders. Moria was once home to some of the finest Universities in the world, and it is believed that much of the knowledge remains locked away in their libraries and tombs beneath the earth where they were protected from the genocide of the continent.

 

Sicilia

Sicilian warriors are the most feared in the entire world. Whether it is weaponry, armor, or hand to hand combat, there are no warriors or blacksmiths in the world that can surpass Sicilian’s. Weapons crafted by dark elves in the belly of the Kailiak Mountain Range are no match for any metal found anywhere else. Dark elves never leave the depths of the earth during daylight for fear that the sun will damage their sensitive eyes permanently. Only half-humans are permitted to leave the belly of the Kailiak when they prove that their eyes are able to endure the bright sunshine.

Other elves are commonly referred to as ‘wood’ elves for distinctive purposes. This may also be because most of Sicilia is lush with forest and streams. Wood elves occupy most of Sicilia and craft the most accurate bows and arrows available. They are cousins to the dark elves in the Kailiak Mountain Range, and  regularly send merchants to the Kailiak to keep their cousins in rich supply.

 

Tesolati

Tesolati is the natural home to lycanthropes of all sorts. Serenestri is home to tigers and other feline lycanthropes excluding lions while Sanguini is occupied solely by wolves, and Apolloni is home to bear and lion lycanthropes. No one outside of Apolloni is quite sure how bear and lion lycanthropes came to live together, but there is no question about whether or not the lions being cast out of Serenestri has something to do with it. House Giovanni is the governing House in Serenestri, and responsible for the ‘cleansing’ of Caldanians from Tesolatian soil, and seceding from the Caldanian Empire.

 

Animals

 

Unicorns -

Magical animals that can be found in any thickly forested area. They are found only in white, black, and the occasional gray or silver. Unicorn blood is said to have magical healing properties, and is also believed to be a necessary ingredient for the fabled “Elixir of Life.” Approach with great caution, as male Unicorns are extremely territorial. Female Unicorns are extremely protective of young Unicorns. ENDANGERED - DO NOT HUNT

 

Dragons - 

Once, Dragons were found throughout the world. Now, they live only with the Gemini and Elemental fae in The Isles. Rumors have been reported of Dragons living in the Serenestri Mountains. Dragons are extremely protective of their eggs, and even of young offspring, as well as territory. Dragons can only be killed outside of their respective element; usually while food supplies are low in their native territory. Dragons have been reported as long as the longest ship, and as small as the average peasant’s dwelling. (Water/’Ice’ dragons are varying colors of blue. Earthen/Forest (most commonly responsible for conflict with humans) dragons are varying colors of green. Fire/Desert dragons are varying colors of brown or dark shades of red. Air/Sea dragons are varying colors of white and pearl.) ENDANGERED AND DANGEROUS – DO NOT HUNT

 

 

Humanoids

 

Elemental Fae - 

Usually, the elemental fae is less than 12 inches in height. They are found mostly in The Isles (Water fae - Isle DeOshan, Earth fae - Isle DeIves, Fire fae - Isle DePyros, Air fae - Isle DeAIR ISLAND HERE). Elemental fae are said to be bonded to a dragon of the same element. Fae can be trapped in clay jars made of the earth of their respective Isle. They will remain without their elemental power for no less than one hour after being freed. May last as long as four hours for young fae. Each elemental fae have distinctive features (Water fae are pale of skin and eyes, and dark of hair. Earthen fae are dark of skin, hair, and eyes. Fire fae are bright of hair and eyes, and pale of skin. Air fae are light of hair, eyes, and skin.)

 

Demi Fae – 

There are many types of demi-fae, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Brownies, shadeux, haerbinger, seelie, unseelie and something are only the beginning. There are intermingling of different varieties of fae which have no specific name, but share many of the aspects of each of their parents. More detail can be found on demi-fae in Moria.

 

Demi-Gods - 

Demi-Gods are being permitted at this time in the role play, and are beings of unusual, or great strength far beyond the usual capacity of a human. Please note that the admin reserves the right to preserve the world of role play by either creating a creature to defeat all created demi-gods, or by voiding actions made by demi-god characters if it is deemed necessary for the continuance of the role play. [NOTE: This will only be done in extreme circumstances where there are several players affected.]

 

Pixies/Nymphs - 

Trapped souls that have been bound to a particular location or object. Some may have freer roam, being able to travel within an entire forest, where others have been confined to a single circle of trees. Most locations are easily recognized by a natural circular pattern to contain the soul. Other locations (such as entire forests, lakes, etc.) can only be recognized by the magically sensitive. These trapped souls cause only mischief and often cause travelers to lose their way. Pixies are believed to be the winged variety - though the reason some possess wings, and others do not is unclear. Can be found anywhere throughout the world. (Color of soul is rumored to change color depending upon the particular soul in question, and its surroundings or mood.) It has been suggested that winged varieties were once some sort of fae.

 

Trolls – 

Mostly non-communicative beings that vaguely resemble the human form. They stand upright, and have been known to use roughly crafted tools - usually only when closer to people. Only Mountain Trolls have a rugged language, and are nearly three times the size of their forest and rock kin. Trolls have rough, thick skin that is not easily penetrated by blade or other standard weapons. Most trolls fear fire. Can be found in any suitable location for their respective tribe. All trolls have coloring similar to reptiles in the surrounding area.

 

Ogres - 

Extremely tall, solitary creatures with greenish to brownish skin. With little body hair, and varying numbers of eyes, they are by far considered some of the most dangerous creatures in the world. Ogres cover great distances, and male Ogres are known for killing their own offspring, as well as any other male offspring they may encounter. Ogres are commonly found in forested or mountainous areas, and can be found throughout the world in accommodating locations. Ogres are aggressive, and should be avoided at all costs.

 

Humans - 

The most commonly found being in the world. Humans are found on every major continent throughout the world. They spread faster and reproduce more often than any other species. Many other people and creatures believe that humans will be their extinction. Humans have been known to exterminate even dragons, by rallying together with as many other humans as they can convince to join them. Humans are easily manipulated and have a different appearance in almost every location. 

 

Gemini - 

A race that some believe fell from the very heavens themselves. The Gemini live with, raise, and train Dragons for their own personal transportation and protection. Gemini have lavender to violet skin tones, and eye colors ranging from pale glacier blue, amethyst all the way to pastel pink. Hair color ranges from darkest amethyst, cerulean blue to scarlet red, and varying shades in between. Gemini are magical beings, though the extent, and specific origin of their magic is a closely guarded secret among themselves.

 

Elves - 

Somewhat magical creatures usually identified by their pointed ears. Elves are the founding people of the Sacred City, Yasmine. Defined as light, or dark elves, based on magical abilities. Some elves inherit light magic, while others inherit dark magic.

 

Lycanthropes - 

Man/animal hybrids. These hybrids are usually created via natural reproduction. In rare cases, a very powerful lycan may turn a human into another, less powerful, lycan after an attack. Lycan species have thus far been limited to mammals. Original Lycanthropy is believed to have been caused by a curse placed upon a small village in Western Europe.

 

Vampires - 

Blood sucking creatures of the night. Only the oldest, or most powerful of vampires are able to walk outdoors during daylight. Most still require shade umbrellas or overcast days to walk freely. Vampires are completely unable to change or manipulate their appearance. They are, however, able to manipulate the human mind, and may do so in regards to their own appearance. Direct eye contact is required. Most humanoids can be converted to vampirism. (Lycans, ogres, trolls, pixies/nymphs and fae cannot.)

 

Angels - 

Only fallen angels are usually seen on the plane of reality. These can be identified by their gray to black colored wings and general unhappiness. Un-fallen angels are rare, but are usually found in areas of great need. Angels do not have a general description, as they can appear as they choose. Angels cannot be caught, only killed via silver and dark magic.

 

Demons - 

Demons are quite common. Weak, or lesser demons, are only able to possess humans and weak or young elves against their will. They can be summoned and controlled by a sorcerer or sorceress, and forced to do the bidding of the summoner. Greater, more powerful demons, do not require a human host. These demons are the most easily identified by their red to black skin and wings. The most powerful are able to assume a human-like appearance (defied by small demon-like attributes such as claws, horns, eyes, skin color, etc), and usually have horns.

 

Half-Spawn – 

Half-spawn are a product of sexual relations between a greater demon and a human, elf, or lycanthrope. Usually, the father is the demonic parent, and almost all human mothers are killed during child birth. Elves and lycanthropes usually survive the birth of demonic children, though, elves usually kill the demonic child at birth.

 

Half-Breed – 

Half-breeds are a product of sexual relations between a lycanthrope and an elf, human, or Gemini in which the child gains some of the natural abilities of the lycanthrope. Rarely, the child will be able to shift into animal or half-animal form during the full moon, or at will. Only the most powerful half-breeds have been known to be able to obtain both animal and half-animal form. Half-breeds and half-spawn are not the same. Demon/lycanthrope children never obtain lycanthrope qualities, only demonic.
